The Zetas are Mexico's most violent, if not richest, cartel, with the largest turf.  Morales allegedly made $10 million a month off cocaine and other illegal enterprises including kidnapping, extortion, migrant and weapons trafficking.  He has also been involved with a series of killings in the U.S..  The murder of David Harley in 2010 on Falcon Lake (US/Mex border) is attributed to Morales. The Zetas are responsible for kidnapping thousands of migrants asking for ransom money up to $3,000. His gang has smuggled $46 million worth of Mexican oil to .U.S. refineries and funnels money to his brother in the U.S laundering money through purchase and training of race horses.

"Fear" is the main tactic used by the Zeta cartel to control people/officials and legitimate businesses.  Morales is being questioned about other criminal connections in the U.S.

People at a migrant shelter in Mexico  have spent much of the last decade living under death threats from the Zetas. The Zetas run operations in 20 Mexican states and have bribed public officials with many on Zeta payroll, including police officers.  The Zetas have operations in Honduras and Guatemala for cocaine and opium growth and shipment, recruiting gang members from these countries.

The Zetas kill those who rebel and will not join them in their enterprises.  They also kidnap girls and force them into prostitution working at Zeta owned bars and use them to sell drugs.  Even more shocking is the organ trafficking business they are involved in and operate with brutality to force their will on others.

Allegedly, the U.S.Drug Enforcement Agency believes his reign of terror has come to an end.
