By now many of you should have received a summary and the actual language of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013. Many of you have been working on the border security issues for well over a decade. The Arizona Cattle Growers’ at the direction of the Border Working Group established in March of 2010 developed a serious plan to accomplish border security. Two years later we should all be proud to see your hard work drafted into a bill that has potential to seriously correct our border situation. However I think we all know that we have a long road ahead of us and it is important that we stay focused on the issue we face and more importantly stay on message.
We should expect a similar situation like we faced in March of 2010. The media and politicians will be seeking our input and comment, it is critical that we focus on our message of border security first. I ask the group to do the following so that staff and leadership can be effective in relaying the message and assisting in legislative matters.
  1. Remember our message focus is on border security. The rest of the package is not our concern. Our top priority is to make sure that all of you have peace of mind where you live and work. We are concerned about those that use our rural lands to conduct illegal activities and threaten our lives.
  2. Please notify me or refer all media inquiries to the office.
  3. Please copy me on any correspondence with congressional staff of congressmen so that I am aware of what is going on.
At this time I would ask you to review the attached documents. All of the border security information is in the first sections of the documents. I have also enclosed the ROB Plan for your reference. Please plan to have a conference call on Friday and prepared to respond to the legislation next Monday.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know ASAP. Information regarding the phone call will be forthcoming.
