Gang of Eight Rejects Border Security Amendment
Take Action!
June 13, 2013
This week, the Senate is debating the Gang of Eight amnesty bill.
Believe it or not, Senate staffers are telling us they are not hearing from constituents like they did in 2007. We know that’s not true, because we’ve heard from many of you that you’re not able to get through.
In reality, they've simply sent their phones to voice mail. But, do not be discouraged — we must keep fighting! It might be necessary for you to call and visit your Senator's district offices to be sure they are hearing your opposition. You can also use this tool to send them an e-mail.
On the Senate floor, Harry Reid is up to his usual antics. Despite his promises that the immigration bill would be drafted through an open amendment process (which is unusual under his leadership), and the Gang of Eight members’ oft-repeated promise that their bill would secure the borders first then legalize illegal aliens, Reid moved to table (in other words, kill) an amendment offered by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley that would have significantly strengthened the border security requirements. Sen. Grassley was quite upset and addressed Sen. Reid very pointedly. See parts of that exchange here.
S. 744 is fatally flawed in so many areas, but even Gang of Eight member Marco Rubio said that he cannot support the bill in its current form, because the border security provisions are so weak. Senator Reid’s obstructionism and fact that the entire Gang of Eight voted against Grassley’s amendment prove that amnesty advocates are not serious about securing the border. The Gang of Eight assured us that amnesty would only happen once the borders were secure, now they are blatantly breaking that promise and refusing to secure the borders. We need you to keep calling to stop this bill!
Click here to see how your Senator voted on border security. If your Senators voted YES, that means they voted to kill the amendment that would have kept the Gang of Eight’s promise to secure the border. If they voted YES, we need you to contact them to express your outrage and to tell your friends and neighbors that their Senator voted against securing the borders. If your Senator voted NO, call them and thank them for their vote while urging them to oppose the bill as a whole since it is obvious that the liberals aren’t serious about border security.
