"We do investigate criminal activity and not the nationality of the criminal. The nationality of a criminal is a by-product of investigating crime; immigration issues are referred to Customs, Border Protection (Border Patrol), and ICE (International Customs Enforcement)."
"Our recommentation includes using 'biometrics' (finger printing, iris scan, and DNA swabs) as part of the application process for people seeking legal status. Most of our Sheriffs are against outsourcing the application process for legal status to non-governmental entities and remaining a federal responsibility."
RE: Jurisdictional issues on Federal lands/parks/Bureau of Land Management
ISSUE: Motorized patrol vehicles are not allowed on federal land
"This is a juridictional issue between the Forrest Serice and Bureau of Land Management versus the Sheriffs on the border. We recommend that the Sheriffs, as law enforcement, should have concurrent jurisdiction with these entities. There is a sign posted at the Coronado National Forrest near the Rob Krentz Ranch in Douglas, Arizona that I will paraphrase: 'Beward of aliens smuggling drugs in this area.'"
