SPECIAL: This first one below was posted in a prior issue. At the time, I did not disagree with it. The two chiefs they quote are in towns of about 1700 and 14,500. A friend of mine is a retired LA Sheriff and specializes in gangs and cartels. PLEASE read his analysis below in “Is Mexican Cartel Activity In the U.S. Exaggerated?”. I think there’s a legitimate case to be made that cartels are running operations either directly or indirectly through gangs and couriers in most parts of the US.-Editor

Mexico’s war on drugs is one big lie-
Book Review of “Narcoland: The Mexican Drug Lords and their Godfathers”.
Anabel Hernández, journalist and author, accuses the Mexican state of complicity with the cartels, and says the ‘war on drugs’ is a sham. She’s had headless animals left at her door and her family have been threatened by gunmen. Now her courageous bestseller, extracted below, is to be published in the UK.

Two agents of the federal attorney general and one civilian were killed in a confrontation in Ojinaga on Friday. The agents tried to stop a vehicle carrying suspects, and were shot along with one of the men they were after. Interesting that these killings happened on Friday and apparently were not reported until Sunday afternoon.

BRAZIL
PF unleashed Operation AWB to combat drug trafficking
28.08.2013 São Paulo / SP – The Federal Police unleashed, on Wednesday (28/8), operation AWB to combat international drug trafficking. Federal police served four arrest warrants and five search and seizure warrants , in the cities of São Paulo and Osasco.
Currently, the shipment of drugs by mail has been a major mode of action of international drug traffickers. In the past two years, the Federal Police in São Paulo / SP seized approximately 250 kilograms of cocaine hidden by criminals amid parcels and letters dispatched from Brazil abroad. Survey conducted indicates as main destinations of these drugs are countries such as Spain, the UK and Australia.
At the same time, there has been a significant increase in seizures of parcels sent from Europe and the United States to Brazil, containing large amounts of drugs like skunk, cannabis, ecstasy and LSD.
The operation name alludes to the document that must be filled by criminals, for shipment of orders used to hide drugs.
The subjects, mostly of foreign origin, will answer for the crime of transnational drug trafficking, with penalties ranging from 5 to 25 years’ imprisonment.
With the police action begun this date, PF expect to hold individuals responsible for sending drugs through the postal service, and ensuring the criminal accountability of those involved in this type of crime.
