S. 744, immigration legislation now under consideration by the U.S. Senate, dramatically increases legal immigration, while doing almost nothing to improve our border security or immigration enforcement.
Our nation must have sound and effective legal immigration policies and secure borders before the U.S. Congress addresses any other aspect of immigration reform. Before tackling any other immigration reform issues, legislation must first:
1. Effectively secure our nation's borders.
2. Strengthen our visa tracking system.
The primary duty of our federal government is to protect and defend our nation and its citizens. I feel that the immigration legislation now under consideration in the U.S. Senate does not approach the issue from this critical perspective. Our nation must be secure before America determines how to deal with those who are in our country illegally.
